Here's a list of some good reading material:

1) Revolutionizing Christian Stewardship for the 21st Century; Dan R. Dick; Discipleship Resources;

www.discipleshipresources.org.  This book gives a viable alternative to a church being driven by structure or by budget as

opposed to being driven by a relationship with Jesus Christ.  This is a keeper and a must read in my opinion.

 2) I Refuse to Lead a Dying Church; Paul Nixon; Pilgrim Press  (www.thepilgrimpress.com This is a must read too!

3) Comeback Churches: How 300 Churches Turned Around and Yours Can Too; Ed Stetzer and Mike Dodson; B&H

     Books

This is beyond must read.  I'm interested in forming a couple of groups around the district for "a study day or days" to reflect,

learn, and grow together.  I think this is one I will recommend to PPRCs and chairs of Ad Councils.

4) Congregational Leadership in Anxious Times; Peter Steinke, The Alban Institute; www.alban.org
If I can find some money, I want to give each pastor in the district this book, or maybe I can provide a portion of the cost.  A book

for this time in the life of the church and her people.  I'm interested in two or three study groups to reflect or maybe asking the

covenant groups to use this as a study book at some point in time.  I'm still figuring this conference budget thing out so be patient.

I never liked being "told" something so instead of telling anyone to do anything, I'm searching for a way to encourage you at

such a level that you'll go out and get this book and begin reading.  It would be one of the most helpful things you could read for

Jesus this year.  Get the idea I'm sold on it.  I'm considering how to get Steinke into our district or share him with another district.

     His thoughts are that good.

5) Healthy Congregations; Peter Steinke

6) How Your Church Family Works; Peter Steinke

7) Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations; Robert Schnase; Abingdon

Because we have so many small churches in the IGRC, here's some good reading:
8) Entering the World of the Small Church;  Anthony Pappas; Alban; www.alban.org

9) Turn Around Strategies for the Small Church; Ron Crandall; Abingdon

10) Small Congregation, Big Potential, Lyle Schaller; Abingdon

11) ***Equipped for Every Good Work, Building a Gifts-Bases Church; Dan Dick and Barbara Miller; Discipleship

          Resources; www.discipleshipresources.org

12) ***Holy Places, Small Spaces: A Hopeful Future for the Small Membership Church;  Bill Kemp; Discipleship Resources

 Other good reading:
13) ***Partnersteps: Developing Cooperative Ministries Today; Edward Kail; Discipleship Resources

14) ***The Church Transition Workbook: Getting Your Church in Gear; Bill Kemp; Disciple Resources

*** I have 8-10 of these books in the office if someone(s) are interested in a group study.  I will try to order some others at a group discount (usually 10 or more) if there is interest.  Again, I'm working on Congregational Leadership in Anxious Times.

We seek to provide attendees with innovative workshops, unique worship experiences, inspiring preachers, dynamic speakers, relevant resources, and networking opportunities that will support them in creating, renewing and revitalizing ministries locally and globally.  This is in keeping with one of the four focus areas adopted by the 2008 United Methodist General Conference:

“Creating new places for new people by starting new congregations and renewing existing ones. If we are to remain faithful to our commitment to transform the world, we will reach out with genuine hospitality to people wherever they are. We will make them feel welcome as we start new faith communities, seek to renew existing ones and inspire faithful discipleship.”

The primary audience for FOCUS includes local church staff and laity involved with children’s ministries including Sunday school teachers and weekday ministry staff; district and conference staff, coordinators of children’s ministries, seminarians, and clergy.
